Origins Game Fair begins next week. For anyone unfamiliar, Origins is a tabletop gaming convention held in Columbus, OH every summer (technically spring, whatever). Origins is organized by the Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and has been around in one form or another since 1975. Here are the things I’m looking forward to at Origins:
Meeting other gamers
This is my FIRST year going to Origins, so I’m pretty excited. The Twitterverse has been buzzing with pre-Origins planning and anticipation. One of the things I am most excited about is meeting folks from my Twitter gaming family in person! There are so many people I’d love to meet and play games with… If you’re going to Origins and want to meet up, please let me know! If you see me around, feel free to say ‘hello.’ Also, I’m going to say this now… I don’t expect anyone to recognize me by face nor will I recognize everyone by face. I know so many of you by your name or your Twitter handle, but when it comes time to match names to faces or handles to names to faces, please don’t be offended if you see me looking at your badge for your name or if I just ask you. I’m planning on wearing my black/blue Dragon Pet on my left wrist for much of the con, so you can look for that if you’re looking for me.
I am SOOOOO happy to finally be meeting Barb and Ella from World of Women and Players Wanted Podcast in person, as well! Ella and I will be rooming together for Origins, so that will be tons of fun.
Learning about new and upcoming games
I’m attending Origins as press, so I’ll be posting a lot on social media and I’ll have some follow-up blog posts, as well. I’ve already got a handful of interviews lined up. Here’s who I’ll be talking to so far:
Playing games!
When I’m not interviewing people or sleeping, I plan to play some games. I’ve got ribbons for the Board Room and Origins After Dark, so there plenty of opportunities to get some gaming in.
I will also be bringing two games that are currently on Kickstarter. I’ll have a prototype copy of Assembly by Wren Games with me until Friday afternoon. I’ll have a PnP version of VERTIUM: Shadows of the Complex by Caper Games with me the entire time. If you’d like to see them, let me know and we’ll try to work out a time to meet up.
